i have been watching the whole sandbox concept to come up wid the slightest idea about how orkut apps can be buildt using opensocial APIs.

Allright. I have a start off overview planned up by now.
1. Apply for sandbox in your orkut.
2. When you are approved, you can access http://sandbox.orkut.com from ur orkut account.
3. This whole orkut works lil different from the orkut evybody sees. Goto applications and add few and enjoy.

This gives an idea about what things we are gonna talk about here ;)
Haha do I need an apraisal? :D

I've been playing around a bit with the API for creating an Orkut app. I signed up, was approved and all but I can't seem to get any of it working.

It appears that you can make client side requests and/or server side requests.

*I've tried to access my friends through the client side code (see link to example) but nothing comes up (maybe it's a sign that I don't have any friends). But seriously, it's pretty annoying when even the examples I get from the creators won't work.

*Next I tried making server requests and I continually get a 404 not found error. As if they've release the code but it's just not working yet (see link to server side example).

Anybody else running into these problems?

How do I get approved to work with the API? Where is the application URL? Thanks for starting this discussion. Talk with you later.
